French Parasitology Alliance For Health Care

The "ParaFrap PhD South" program was set up following a proposal of the Labex ParaFrap to IRD and CIRAD to contribute to a joint doctoral program directed towards the countries and students of the "South".

Following a call launched with ParaFrap partner laboratories, 10 projects were submitted and examined by a selection committee made up of 7 members from ParaFrap, IRD and CIRAD. The evaluation criteria were not only based on the scientific quality and originality of the project, but also on the quality of the partners and contribution of the theme for the "South". Each project had  a partner in the "South".

Finaly, seven projects were selected. The students, all from "Southern" countries, were proposed by the project managers, and the applications were validated by the Selection Committee, on the basis of training, experience and suitability with the proposed project.

All the students had started their doctoral studies at the beginning of the academic year 2017. They benefit from an ARTS-type scholarship (IRD) and have to spend half their thesis time in France and the other half in the country of "South" .

A first training workshop for all these students, entitled "ParaFrap Introductive Training Course in Molecular and Applied Parasitology", was organized in March 2019. Other workshops will follow throughout their training program.
